The Work Performance Center is committed to prevention and reduction of injury in the workplace. One method to educate prospective employees and assess their physical capabilities prior to starting employment is through Work Performance tests (WPT/POETS). The team within the Work Performance Center completes thousands of screens per year for a variety of companies from construction, manufacturing, to police, and fire departments.
The WPT assesses the flexibility and strength of the individual and the essential functions of the position for which they are being hired. The test is performed on a MET/NOT MET basis, with instruction given in proper body mechanics related to lifting, carrying, push/pull, etc. as well as stretching for tight musculature
The process of setting up a WPT begins with establishing the position or positions to be evaluated by the therapist and to determine the essential functions to be tested. WPT’s are created, verified for accuracy, and implemented with equipment simulating the job functions. New employees are first seen by a physician for a physical examination. Once the employee successfully completes the physical exam, they are then seen for their additional testing.
