Drug testing and alcohol testing is a common practice in relation to the hiring of employees and the employee evaluation process. It continues to be an effective tool for ensuring workplace safety and liability.

Benefits of Drug & Alcohol Testing

Drug testing not only ensures the freedom of liability for the employer when hiring individuals for work; it helps to ensure that all employees are comfortable interacting with and trusting each other. Drug use can cause problems like paranoia, irritability and hallucinations. It can cause an employee’s performance to suffer and produce unneeded tensions between coworkers. Regularly testing employees will help to keep them safe and discourage them from abusing prescriptions and illegal substances.

Safety. Drug testing helps to ensure a safe working environment for the employees and management alike. Maintaining a drug-free environment leads to stronger productivity and less wasted time, accidents and mistakes. It also means that your employees are at less of a risk when working on the floor, especially when performing tasks that involve operating in hazardous work zones.

Reliability. Employees that are regularly drug-tested are less likely to abuse illegal drugs and substances. This naturally leads to a higher level of reliability on the part of the employee(s) and helps to build trust among coworkers and between management and lower-tier employees. In short, drug testing encourages employees to take pride in their work. This results in a more amicable work environment and better productivity for the business.
