Fitness-For-Duty Exams
A fitness-for-duty exam is designed to assess an individual’s capacity to return to work, normally following an absence. The absence may be the result of surgery or other medical or psychological conditions. Because these workers have likely been under the care of one or more general or specialty medical providers, Minnesota Occupational Health normally requires the worker to release their relevant medical files to our physicians so they can be reviewed in the context of determining fitness for duty.
Following a thorough review of the treating provider’s records, a targeted examination seeks to answer the question, “Is this person fit for duty?” and / or “Would accommodations by the employer likely be necessary?”
Minnesota Occupational Health offers a detailed, considerate fitness-for-duty examination process that abides by stipulated regulations such as the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
